In a clearing below Peter's Nest Wood known mysteriously as 'Hell's Throat', hard by a woodland spring is the original tiny cottage of Woodwells farmstead, marked on an 1847 map. Outside, the gardens provide a meeting place for sociable pheasants.

This is the perfect 'love nest' for two, Virgilian in bucolic peace and sweet sylvan scenery. 'Lucky old Peter', comments The Good Holiday Cottage Guide -- 'and whoever he brings with him, of course'.

Downstairs we enter through the kitchen, which leads into the living room with comfortable dining and sitting areas; the bathroom is adjacent.

Upstairs is the double attic bedroom (with lowish ceilings under the eaves) enjoying views to the west down the Owlpen valley. There is ample parking and a small private garden.

The nearby Cyder House restaurant is a listed historic building of the fifteenth century, with 'cruck' trusses. A gigantic oak cider press stands in the corner from 300 years ago, when cider feasts were held here. It is a stunning setting, furnished with portraits and Arts and Crafts furniture from the family collection.

Prices range from £350 to £595 depending on season. See our website for more details.

OWLPEN has long been recognised as one of England's most romantic manor houses. In 2006 it was voted one of finalists in the Country Life - Savills award for "England's Favourite Manor House".
