The Old Stables

An ideal cottage for 2 small familes, a number of generations, or those who like a lot space, the Old Stables is approached under the rhododendron trees and up a short flight of stairs onto the balcony overlooking the monkey puzzle garden. This light and spacious cottage spans the entire length of the first floor of the old stables. A generous 3 metre balcony (with table and chairs) extends from the kitchen through french doors to catch the sun from late morning - lovely for dining. The south view from the sitting room (with wood burner and wood supplied free from the estate) reveals the sea through the tree tops.

Tregrehan has been home to the Carlyon family since 1565. Jovey Carlyon's passion for trees during the late 19thcentury is evident in the towering specimens seen today. Beneath this canopy Gillian Carlyon's (1924-1987) renowned collection of camellias flourish. In quiet rebellion against this promiscuous genus, the botanical collection of the current 'gardener' (encumbered with the same passion as his forebears) requires an appreciation of the diversity of the world's flora. At its floral peak in the spring, the 20 acre garden and magnificent green-house (circa 1846)

The cottages are located at the garden entrance. Each has its own private garden and endless space to roam through woods, parkland and fields. Adults can relax in peace. Children can do what children do without the worry of upsetting their neighbours.
